Zoom sur l’Hôpital Scott Memorial – Lesotho
En prolongement du séminaire du mois dernier, nous vous offrons une présentation de l’Hôpital Scott Memorial Hospital situé à Morija au Lesotho, institut médical de la Lesotho Evangelical Church in Southern Africa (LECSA).
Bâti en 1937 par la Mission de Paris, l’hôpital jouit d’une place particulière dans l’histoire du pays. D’abord par son lieu, Morija, berceau d’une des plus anciennes églises protestantes de l’Afrique. En effet, la Lesotho Evangelical Church existe depuis 1838 ! e le fait que l’actuel roi du Lesotho, Lestie III, y est né et continue d’activement et régulièrement aider l’hôpital lors de ses visites.
Servant une population de 200 000 d’habitants pour une capacité de seulement 100 lits, l’hôpital Scott Memorial survit grâce aux subventions publiques et aux dons d’associations de différents pays.
Depuis 2018, la Cevaa participe activement aux divers projets d’équipement et de construction liés à l’hôpital. On compte cinq projets que le Programme Solidarité Santé a financés:
- La maison de repos des parturientes, qui permet aux femmes habitants dans les montagnes et qui s’apprêtent à accoucher de se loger pour seulement 65 rands (3€) la nuit et attendre l’accouchement sereinement
- Le X-ray
- L’équipement de la salle d’opération dont le financement est toujours en cours
- L’équipement et la rénovation du cabinet dentaire
- L’achat d’une ambulance pour le poste avancé de Tebellong
L’équipement du bloc opératoire est le projet de la Cevaa actuellement en cours
En visite le vendredi 14 novembre 2025, la délégation du séminaire du Programme Solidarité Santé a pu apprécier la propreté des lieux et l’efficacité des différents services, mais aussi observer les défis auxquels ils sont confrontés. La Cevaa, par l’intermédiaire de l’organisme Otto-per-mille, demeure un atout essentiel pour les hôpitaux et centres de santé des églises de la Cevaa, qui sont isolés et ruraux.
Spotlight on Scott Memorial Hospital – Lesotho
As a follow-up to last month’s seminar, we are pleased to present Scott Memorial Hospital, located in Morija, Lesotho, a medical institution of the Lesotho Evangelical Church in Southern Africa (LECSA).
Built in 1937 by the Paris Mission, the hospital holds a special place in the country’s history—first because of its location in Morija, the cradle of one of the oldest Protestant churches in Africa. Indeed, the Lesotho Evangelical Church has existed since 1838. It is also significant that the current King of Lesotho, Letsie III, was born there and continues to actively support the hospital during his regular visits.
Serving a population of 200 000 people with a capacity of only 100 beds, Scott Memorial Hospital survives thanks to public subsidies and donations from associations in various countries.
Since 2018, Cevaa has been actively involved in several equipment and construction projects linked to the hospital. Five projects have been funded by the Health Solidarity Program:
- The maternity waiting home, which allows women living in the mountains who are about to give birth to stay for only 65 rand (€3) per night and await delivery in a calm and safe environment
- An X-ray unit
- Equipment for the operating theatre, for which funding is still ongoing
- Equipment and renovation of the dental clinic
- The purchase of an ambulance for the Tebellong outreach post
The equipping of the operating theatre is currently Cevaa’s ongoing project.
During a visit on Friday, November 14, 2025, the delegation from the Health Solidarity Program seminar was able to appreciate the cleanliness of the facilities and the efficiency of the various services, while also observing the challenges they face. Cevaa, through the Otto-per-mille organization, remains an essential asset for the hospitals and health centers of Cevaa churches that are isolated and located in rural areas.
